That to bring Between June and October it is advisible to bring a suit of 3mm, the rest of
the year a short and a lycra is enough. The wind sometimes is cold, but the temperature of the water does not go down
of 20șC. Depending on your level, we recommend to bring boards from 6'0 for small waves up to 8 ' 0 for the biggest. Bring
wax, a second leash and lot of sun block.
|
When to come
The most difficult thing is to align with the wind in the proper direction, but suring the whole year we have southern
swell, which is the most constant and is on both sides of the Island, North Coast and South Coast. Nevertheless, it is
stronger in te South Coast. From November through March there are North swells coming from Hawaii.

Hanga Roa Bay
Located in the center of the village of Hanga Roa, the ancient Rapa Nui Polynesians competed in this millenary beach, thanks
to a Sport named Haka Honu (surfing over the waves with a turtle form body) and Haka Ngaru (ancient surf).
This is the most recommendable wave for any surfer. Easy to go inside and out, small and big though amusing waves. Volcanic
lava rocky bottom.
|
Motu Hava
Located beside Papa Pea, in Hanga Roa beach. It is a bit speedier and inclined than the later.
Recommended for any level of surfers. Small and big waves, always entertaining.
|
Vaihu
Tubular and very amusing wave. The smoothest of the South Coast, nearly comparable with Motu Hava, though a bit
faster. The only disadvantage is that the wave is 200 meter away from the exit channel.
|
Poko o Hanga vare VareFast and aggressive wave, big tube to the right and big wall to the left. Advanced
level, difficult for its entry when it is big.
|
Hoi
Short, intensive, vertical and tubular wave on both sides, left and right. Very amusing. Advanced level.
|
Tahai
Most commonly, this wave, along with Papa, Motu Hava and Poko work more constantly in summer. But this one elevates from
2m to 10 meters high. It is nonetheless a safe wave and very impressive because of its location, in the back of a ships
landing stage at the ceremonial town of Tahai.
|
Viringa O Tuki
Located in a cliff with an access that must be made walking, because it has a big slope. It is nearly a secret place.
Sand bottom. Depending on the tide and the wind, the beach is also of sand. A very safe place for surfing. Difficult though
to find waves higher than 3 m.

Rapa Nui, the Hawaii of the year 3.000
Add your content here
|
Eastern Island, called Rapa
Nui by natives, has a rough geography, without bays and a coast buffeted by larges waves. Until 1960 when the airport was finally built, Rapa Nui was only visited three or
four times a year by ship that anchored at a considerable distance from the coast because of the swell, the same waves that
were later discovered by the surfing sport world.
|
Surfers are
beginning to discover the wild island
of Rapa Nui in the mide of indomitable waves and sacred stone statues. For surfers, Eastern Island
is still being unveiled. Each expedition has a new chance to map the waves, wich
will certainly have a privileged place in the future. The island could well become
the Hawaii of the year 3.000 once erosion has worn out the rocky bottom of the
sea. For the time being, its lonely waves burst over the black lava seabed (mainly on the sout coast). They show an intimidating power and are observed by stone giants –moais- sculpted by a long gone
civilization. Between June and September the southern side of the island is hit by large sweels. The waves of Hanga Roa on the western coast are less dangerous and are more fun to surf during summer.
